Lymphatic Function and Immune Regulation in Health and Disease

According to a September 2013 Study, published in the journal  Lymphatic Research  and  Biology, the authors conclude that Lymphatic vessels are present throughout the body, except in the central nervous system and bone marrow. The lymph nodes, spleen, and other secondary lymphoid organs are strategically located in anatomical sites. This is where they collect foreign antigen and antigen presenting cells to activate antigen-specific lymphocytes. The study was performed by authors Shan Liao, PhD and Timothy P. Padera, PhD, E. L. Steele Laboratory, Department of Radiation Oncology, Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts.
